When do Municipal judicial candidates officially file for office?

Monday, January 5, 2026 to Friday, January 16, 2026 (by 5 p.m.). The city clerk is the filing officer for offices that are elected in municipal elections. (NRS 293.177(1)(a); NRS 293C.175). Candidates must complete various forms, such as the appropriate Declaration of Candidacy form, and submit it to the proper filing officer.


Can judicial candidates raise campaign funds?

JUDICIAL CANDIDATE MAY SOLICIT PUBLIC SUPPORT AND CONTRIBUTIONS IF OPPOSED – (beginning at 5:01 p.m.) A candidate who is opposed and/or the candidate’s committees may solicit or accept contributions for the candidate’s campaign no earlier than 5 p.m. on the last day for filing a declaration of candidacy for judicial office and no later than 90 days after the last election in which the candidate participates during the election year.

Who is eligible to vote?

Nevada law has specific requirements you must follow before you are eligible to vote.

  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day.

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Be a resident of Nevada for 30 days preceding any election.

  • Not currently serving a term of imprisonment for a felony, and/or;

  • Not have been declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.

Individuals who are 17 years old and meet all the other qualifications to register to vote can pre-register to vote using any of the means available. A person who has preregistered to vote automatically becomes a registered voter on their birthday, unless the preregistration has been cancelled. 

For municipal races, you must live within the municipality (e.g. City of Las Vegas). You can check to see if your address is located within the City here.

I didn’t vote in the last election, do I need to do something to vote in this election?

If you did not vote in the last election, and you did not return a postcard mailed to you pursuant to NRS 293.530, your voter registration will be put into inactive status. "Inactive Voter" status includes any voter for whom a county has received: 1) a returned residency confirmation mailing without a forwarding address within the same county, or 2) information obtained through the United States Postal Service National Change of Address (NCOA) database indicating that a voter has moved outside the county. An inactive voter is eligible to vote so long as they have met all other legal requirements to vote.

If you do not vote in two consecutive federal elections, your local County Clerk/Registrar of Voters office must CANCEL your registration, pursuant to the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). If your voter registration is cancelled, you must re-register to vote. You can check your voter information anytime online at My Voter File.           

When is the election?

PRIMARY ELECTION

The 2026 Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.  

The Effective Absentee System for Elections (EASE) will be available to use not later than Friday, April 24, 2026, and will close with polls on election day.

Early Voting began on Saturday, May 23, 2026 and ran through Friday, June 5, 2026. 

GENERAL ELECTION

The 2026 General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The Effective Absentee System for Elections (EASE) will be available to use not later than Friday, September 25, 2026 and will close with polls on election day.

Early voting begins on Saturday, October 17, 2026 and runs through Friday, October 30, 2026.
